About Yilam

Yilam was born and raised in Hong Kong, and migrated to Australia with her passion in humanistic work and enthusiasm in enhancement of personal growth and family relationships.

Yilam speaks Cantonese, Mandarin and English. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and completed her Master’s degree in Family Counselling and Family Education in the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and later became a member of AASW in Australia. With years of direct service in the frontline as well as teaching in the University, Yilam brings a wide range of experience and perspective to her work.

Yilam has worked in multiple settings, including within hospital, family centre, mental health, pregnancy, EAP, NGOs, and public and private settings. She has taught Social Work at Universities. Yilam mainly works with adult clients, ranged from college students to middle-aged people, who have struggled with mental health concerns, marital and family relationships, past trauma, adjustment difficulties and chronic illnesses.

Yilam is also an arts facilitator and a certified yoga teacher, passionate in bringing a holistic approach in healing, and supporting people to grow to their fullest.

Yilam’s approach is client-centred, humanistic and existential. Her aim is to explore and discover with clients their underlying needs and primary emotions. Yilam is sensitive to themes and patterns, and values the influence of clients’ past experience and childhood trauma. Yilam works towards building a solid self in clients and fostering their inner resilience, so that clients are capable to contain life’s transitions and are empowered to resolve their future challenges.
